Leaver dinner and Self Reliance

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner and evening with these great missionaries who have served
So valiantly for 18 or 24 months.  We celebrate their service and devotion to the Lord.
The leaving missionaries are joined here by Elder and Sister Rohlfing and Elder and
Sister Withington.
Elder Burdge and Elder Dietze
Elder Nelson and Elder Payne
Sister Collins and Sister Fossett.
Even though I caught Elder Gaastra with his eyes closed, he still gives thumbs up!
Elder Withington, Elder Rohlfing and President Parker

After a lovely dinner, its time to cut some ties.  These Elders are not so sure about this?!?!?
President PArker is explaining how this tradition got started.  When his father was called
As a mission president in 1978, they cut a tie from each missionary as they went home
, to leave a part of themselves  in the mission.  Then they had a beautiful quilt made
out of all the ties that they display at mission reunions.  It is beautiful.
Then his sister and her husband continued the tradition when they were called and
Served in the Poland Warsaw Mission.  So we are continuing the Parker tradition.
Watching and waiting!
The Self-Reliance class is a great blessing to all of the missionaries before they return
Home.  Taught by Elder and Sister Snell, helping these missionaries starts way before
This day.  Working with many of them to make a plan for their future and helping them
Prepare for interviews, school and  work. We are s thankful to have them in this mission
As we watch them literally changing lives.
